Read Mór: Arts Council will gift 4,500 books on Culture Night Friday September 23rd | The Arts Council

The Read Mór gifting project is part of the Arts Council’s 70th anniversary programme and passengers will have a ticket to the furthest reaches of their imagination from one of 21 different books by Irish based authors and publishers.

Director of the Arts Council, Maureen Kennelly said “Read Mór is our gift to the public on Culture Night, on the occasion of the Arts Council’s 70th anniversary year. Over many decades, we have supported writers and publishers in Ireland; with Read Mór, we are gifting the opportunity to discover and enjoy some of the exciting and diverse range of writers in Ireland today and we hope in turn that passengers will regift the joy of reading. We could not have done this without the enthusiasm of the authors and publishers, our partners in Irish Rail and Bus Éireann and we are immensely grateful for their support in making Read Mór happen this Culture Night.”

A Book Conductor will be present in Heuston Station, Connolly Station, Busáras, Cork, Galway, Sligo and Waterford on Culture Night from 2pm onwards to gift the books to passengers. Book Conductors will be stationed inside the stations with their Library Trolley ready to gift passengers a book from a wide selection of Irish and Irish-based authors.

Passengers are encouraged to share the joy of reading when they have finished their book and regift it to another. There will be a wide variety of titles available to suit all interests and ages, from novels, short stories, poetry, memoirs, children’s and young adult books, in both English and Irish. Audiobook versions of a selection of the titles will also be available.

The authors who are part of the Read Mór gifting programme include; Colm Tóibín; Marian Keyes; Claire Keegan; Doireann Ní Ghríofa; Sophie White; Pat Boran; Annie West; Rosaleen McDonagh; Kevin Power; Annemarie Ní Churreáin; Eiléan Ní Chuilleanáin; Tadhg Mac Dhonnagáin; Nithy Kasa; Chris Haughton; Jarlath Gregory; Wendy Erskine; David O’Doherty; Helena Close; Sadhbh Devlin; Colin Barrett and Bebe Ashley.
