‘When Vision Refuses to Explain’ International Juried Exhibition
Whosmuseum announces a call to artists for an upcoming art exhibition, February 1-26, 2026 at Sasse Museum of Art in Pomona, CA. We live in an age of linguistic excess. Artists are expected to explain, audiences are trained to interpret, and artworks are often reduced to objects of translation. The autonomy of visual art – once regarded as the purest form of perception – has been gradually framed and weakened by language. ‘When Vision Refuses to Explain’ seeks to suspend this habit of interpretation. $35 entry fee. Deadline: December 31, 2025. More info. Contact: email

Disturbance: The Art & Ecology of Change
The Paseo Project invites artists to apply for participation in Disturbance, a new interdisciplinary program that pairs artists with scientists to explore wildfire as both a destabilizing force and a regenerative element in ecological and social systems. This project will unfold through shared research, creative collaboration, and public engagement, culminating in an exhibition and series of events in Taos, New Mexico, September-December 2026. Through a required four-day Northern New Mexico based “fire ecology boot camp,” in April 2026, selected artists will be immersed in collaborative dialogue with fire practitioners and ecologists, and site visits to burn scars and post-fire landscapes. Artists will then return to their home studios to develop new work that reflects on the ecological, cultural, and emotional dimensions of wildfire. These works will be shared in an exhibition in Taos, NM, designed to engage the broader community in dialogue about living with fire in a climate-altered future. $20 application fee. Deadline: February 1, 2026. More info. Contact: email or call 575-425-0321.
